The Weather Blows By

The weather here is craaaazy!  One minute, you’re battening down the hatches with a down vest, then up goes the brolly, and then on with the sunscreen.  My twin boys have arrived, they are 5.  I was trying to jolly them out of their jet lag by telling them what a great summer holiday they’ve been having.  They looked at me with condescension and explained that “it’s not summer in Scotland”.  On the other hand, my mom, who’s here to help out with my brood and enjoy a bit of the festival herself, is relieved to be away from the oppressive heat of Toronto.  Whatever’s going on around here, it seems that the weather isn’t the only thing that changes!  Yesterday, we had a WOW crowd.  What a delight to perform!  They were, for whatever alchemical reasons, into the show as a group.  I was carried out of the theatre on the waves of their laughter.  Today.  Not so much.  If I were to perform in a tomb, it might have been like today.  How does this happen?  I wonder.  Sometimes it does seem as though an audience forms a kind of group identity and mostly you don’t even question it.  But when it’s so darn quiet, a girl does get wondering . . .

But not too much.  It might be a warm, breezy, snowy, rainy, cloudy day tomorrow.  Or it might be a humid, drizzly, dry, blizzard.  All I know is, I’m doing my show at 3:40 for whoever shows up.  And I’ll be glad to have them there!
